Sooo I binge-watched all 50 subbed episodes of Astro Boy (2003) and I cried a whole lot and ended up desperately hoping Dr Tenma gets proper psychiatric care and wishing that someday, maybe, if Atom's okay with it, they can try and reconcile on more equal footing...
My headcanon is that Dr. Tenma is both on the autism spectrum and suffers from severely unmedicated bipolar disorder (which he frequently Refuses to be medicated on so his episodes often are mixed type with psychotic features). His most consistent psychotic features are delusions of megalomania and grandiosity consistent to a typical manic episode, but also paranoid delusions that the government is gonna get him/steal his work/use it in a way he doesn't agree with and that robots are going to turn on him and humanity. he also has auditory hallucinations that devalue him and others, and compel him to do bad things to himself and others. As the years go on and he remains poorly medicated, the auditory hallucinations stop going away, and are always going on, and the baseline paranoia remains no matter what. he functionally develops schizoaffective disorder ;;
I like to think that after the show's wrapped up Ochanomizu (and maybe Atom, too) vouch those in positions of authority to Get Dr Tenma Medicated and maybe, with time and patience and stability, he can finally reach euthymia. Or, at least, become stable enough that he can properly apologize to Atom.... a guy can dream ;-;
Atom's such a good kid. He deserves the world okay!!!!!!!

~~Does it have to be from AO3? Because there’s some real gems on Livejournal. (And ff.net, I guess).~~
::scans the oldest few pages of Trigun fics on AO3::
One of my favorite Legato headcanons: Hunger by rabbitprint.
A cute worldbuilding/postcanon slice of life piece/the one acceptable Wolfwood reincarnation fic: A Little Piece of Paradise by XMagicalX or Xparrot
Two Wolfwood & Livio focused fics ‘cause I didn’t feel like choosing and they’re both good:
Three Rounds in the Chamber by Catwooman (”Wolfwood lives” AU where the writer alternates between scenes in the past and present, and the scene where Wolfwood wakes up and finds himself in an adult body all of a sudden is wonderfully horrifying.)
Men Like Us by Leu (Karaii) (Follows and expands on manga canon. Wolfwood’s narrating voice is spot on).
Below the cut: NSFW.
Self-Inflicted by Angsty_McGoth (Doctor_Cyance). Easily one of my top 3 pwp’s, read more times than I’d like to admit, because I’m a slut for sexual tension.
Fic Back Friday
Make a post recommending a fic you love from at least a year ago. Dust off the archives, dig through your AO3 history and share those old fics with newer fans who might not have seen them - and the fans who’ve been around forever and might want to revisit an old fave.
Reblog art, edits, and gifsets from seasons past. Dig out those hold headcanon and meta posts and bring them back. What were the popular fan theories? What was everyone writing fic about 2 years ago? Five? Go comment on an old fanvid that got you right in the feels. Queue up that OTP playlist and break out the tissues.

Any doctorly thoughts on Vash and all his scars and various metal bits? 👀
VASH IS A TRANS ICON!!!!!!!!
i mean, ahem.
i fucking love vash's scars, all the gnarly hacked off bits in odd places and clunky metal pseudo-patching his mutilated chest, the bolts suggesting he was drilled back together in places instead of stitched, and the janky lacerations implying he was poorly stitched back together in others-- this man has been FUCKED UP for the past century, and not just because he stepford smiles no matter how much he's dying inside.
vash has physical evidence of violence upon his person in a brutal, "he rawdogged healing this almost intentionally" kind of way. his own personal stigmata that he's borne and displays, on occasion, with an almost sheepish shamelessness. and it becomes even more obvious that he's willingly looking like this when we see how fast and easily his twin brother can heal and reform his body-- knives literally pieces himself back together after being blasted apart by vash and looks pristine. untouched. perfect.
so vash looking like he does is a statement, i'd argue. it's almost an I'M HUMAN AND THIS IS EVIDENCE I HAVE LIVED (AND SUFFERED)!!!! THIS IS THE BODY I CHOSE TO INHABIT!!! the fact that he simply Refuses to use his plant powers to change that says a lot, to me. the few times he's used his plant powers to defend himself it's been either involuntary or in the act of defending others, too. vash, i believe, wishes so so so fucking hard he was human that he willingly lets his body be massacred in an effort to prove that, to feel at home in this wretched inhuman body that refuses to age. his scars are how he shows time has passed and he's lived in that time.
but you're asking about doctorly thoughts, ne? my doctorly opinion is that What The Fuck Was Going On With Some Of Those Wounds Vash xDDDD a lot of them don't really make sense / make me wonder if Vash wasn't literally tortured/blown apart multiple times. or if he didn't like. intentionally mess with them so they'd stay open..... things to think about.
i unfortunately gotta run do some doctorly things now instead of elaborating more but, yeah, vash gives me trans vibes, in that he passively self-harms in that manner in an effort to bully his body into being more aligned with his mental image of himself (ie, human).

Young adult!Cor as a Royal Guardsman! featuring a younger Dustin and Monica :3 I like to think they went on many missions together.
They're primarily a reconnaissance and intelligence-gathering team, first formed to infiltrate the budding Imperial bases in Duscae and Leide and then destroy them.
Dustin's a bit Ignis-esq, in that he's mild-mannered, well-educated, and secretly a fucking badass ninja assassin. He can wield pretty much any weapon more than adequately but he's fond of poison and crossbows for the silent-kill-at-a-distance. He prefers not to be credited for his successes. Kind of a sub lol.
Monica is the infiltration specialist, she's low-born like Cor and grew up robbing rich people's houses and getting around their security, so she's rough around the edges and damn scrappy in a fight. Her preference is for daggers but is handy with a gun. At first she's a punkass kid that talks back and takes no shit (which Clarus likes to remind Cor that he was just like that whenever he bitches about it), but she eventually mellows into a more compassionate while still passionate leader-type.
Cor's the hard-hitter and the expert at getting out of any dicey situation alive and kicking. He's technically team leader by rank but defers to Monica and Dustin's expertise while they remain undetected-- the moment they're spotted, though, he's barking orders and leaving a bloodtrail. Over those several months-long missions abroad Monica and Dustin get to know him very well, and become self-proclaimed experts at telling apart his scowls (he scowls whenever they say that). They also get quite good at making him quirk a smile, and laugh on occasion :3
I like to think they're the team that rescued Prompto ^^
Eventually they are eased out of this joint field work and brought back home separately, and shuffled into the Crownsguard positions they hold in canon. Cor at first distances himself from them simply because he's no longer around them 24/7, but when Dustin continues sending him intelligence reports and Monica continues doing favours for him when he needs it, he starts orbiting them again even off-duty. They become his friends.
Monica and Dustin become a lowkey item (they never marry and are very good at avoiding PDA, but they're a Thing), and Cor eventually becomes their kinda on-again off-again satellite. In my HC Cor's aromantic demisexual, with a very low sex drive, but whenever he does get an urge or a need, he turns to them to get it over with. He's not into romance, he's not into big gestures, he's not really even into staying over for the night, but they're cool with it. They respect him (and each other) immensely, so no hard feelings, and they always put the job first before pleasure anyway.
They're workaholics is what I'm getting at.
When Insomnia falls and Cor becomes de-facto leader of what remains of the Crownsguard, they unite once more to keep the whole mess standing and recruit Hunters and trained civilians to their cause. They keep Cor grounded and going and stop him from falling into a suicidal demon-killing spree on many an occasion over the years, so he's very grateful to them, in his own gruff way. When Dustin grows too old for the field and Monica semi-retires with him, Cor lowkey moves in, too.
I have a lot of endgame OT3 feels ok!!
Anyway here's a tentative age and height chart:
#ff15#karaii art#cor leonis#karaii's headcanons#i will lowkey ot3 ship them alone if i have to#cor's wearing an earpiece with a signal reciever shaped like regis' little horned crown thing because let's face it#if this is 20-25 years before canon then surely their radios needed it lmao#plus its a cute little fashion statement of his loyalty hahaha (i wonder who designed them?)

Cor and Drautos!! I keep wondering what their relationship (if any) was like. They at LEAST knew each other in a professional capacity, both being Captains of their respective units. But I speculate even before that-- because surely Titus was a Royal Guardsman before the Kingsglaive was established, its literally the predecesor of that group + he must've had enough justified time spent abroad in Niflheim to have had the time to become General Glauca undetected in the first place.
The Royal Guardsmen in episode Ardyn are pretty much heavily implied to be Black ops / Wetworks, who infiltrate Niflheim's secretest of secret bases with permission to attack indiscriminately to complete their mission (whatever it may be), so it stands to reason Titus may have been one of them for a long enough time (and sufficiently successful at surviving lol) that he was eventually given the title of Captain of the Kingsglaive.
Since I HC Cor was a Royal Guardsman for a few years as a young adult (because I very much like the fancanon that he rescued Prompto, tho I think he did it with Monica and Dustin instead of alone), I figure he and Titus must've crossed paths in this fashion at some point. Enough to make Cor confident enough to, at the very lest, not veto him becoming the Kingsglaive captain later down the line.
So when did Cor stop being a Royal guardsman and start being fulltime Crownsguard instead? I headcanon it was straight after Episode Ardyn, pretty much because Ardyn single-handedly invaded Insomnia with no trouble, summoned the Infernian and provoked massive casualties, and presumably beat/burnt the tar out of Clarus (is that why he's bald later on..? lol) before beating the shit out of Regis (THE KING!!! the motherfucking king!!!), and noping out via bahamut without being caught. Like! Internal security failed MASSIVELY! Cor must've been APOPLECTIC!
Honestly throughout that stupid assault I kept thinking "where the fuck is Cor in all of this!?!", and my brain eventually figured, "maybe he's not even in Insomnia..?", and thus the Royal Guardsman headcanon was born. So presumably after this incident Cor's like, IM NEVER LEAVING INSOMNIA AGAIN. And becomes round-the-clock Crownsguard.
Too overqualified to be a glorified policeman and too restless to be kept as a mere bodyguard to the king, Cor turns to being a teacher and administrator of soldiers, 1) to train those little fuckers to defend the crown properly god damnit, and 2) to lessen the burden on Clarus, who probably suffered one hell of a blow after Ardyn casual-as-you-please made a mess of Insomnia -- both physical and emotional.
Aaaaand I headcanon that it's at this point that Titus starts becoming Glauca. Titus is both trusted by Cor (who has the ear of the king and is verbally confident titus is a trustworthy asset even when abroad in hostile territory for ages and ages) and backed up by Ardyn (who is now determined to make the king's final moments miserable, as HE specifically can't kill the king by bahamut's decree, but someone close to him definitely could), so it could partially explain how Titus fast-tracked his way up BOTH enormously paranoid militaries, even when being incapable of being in both places at once.
Anyway. Yeah. Cor and Titus. Lots of feels.
I dig the Grudging-Respect/hateship vibe, like, Cor disliking Titus even while respecting and trusting him immensely. And Titus of course loathes Cor and everyone associated with the crown, but he's good at disguising it as workplace jealousy instead of the genuine hatred of a man long since wronged. It's a fascinating dynamic, moreso if you imagine them having grown up together in the military -- like, barely 20 year old highly-decorated Cor meeting 16 year old recently-joined Titus, then meeting again in the black ops as 20-somethings, then Cor gets retired early because Ardyn fucked shit up and Cor's like >:/ ....I wish I had Drautos' job (i miss being badass superspy assassin and killing niffs instead of giving out parking tickets), and Titus is like >:/ I wish I had Leonis' job (so i can get closer to the king and one day kill him)....
and maybe they hatefuck once or twice

are ya'll sick of my hot take headcanons for oldass fandoms yet? CAUSE I GOT MORE
All this 'cause I was wondering why tf Alexei would off some rando guild so viciously and it hit me -- what if it was personal?
(cw spoilers obvsly)
What if Seifer was his deadbeat dad?
Seifer look pretty old even 10?+ years after his death, and Patty is described as "Aifread's granddaughter", implying Aifread was old enough to HAVE a 14 year old granddaughter by the time canon rolls around, so I'm calculating they'd be, oh 70 years old. That'd make Seifer 28 years old when he fathered Alexei, and that'd make "Aifread" 28 when she "had" "Patty's mom", who was 28 when she "had" Patty, so we've got this factor 7 cropping up with 70 and 14 and 28 and it makes my brain happy ok go away
ANYWAY
Alexei never cared to know who his dad was until he's suddenly rising in the ranks and he discovers some shitty guild boss is probably his sperm donor. The council already makes life difficult for him for being a commoner, what would they do if he was the son of an ENEMY? so Alexei's like. This guy has to go.
That explains why Seifer (and by proxy Aifread) even agreed to Alexei's mumbo jumbo blastia experiment. If Seifer explained to Aifread the guy's his kid and he wants to make up for lost time and do this one favour for him, Aifread would be like Still Fishy AF But If It's You Asking Then Okay.
Maybe Alexei didn't even mean for the experiment to go so buttfuck. I mean, he let them all see his face and know he was involved, after all. But, well, it did. So Alexei not only ruins Seifer so thoroughly no one even remembers him and those that do think he's a monster that massacred hundreds of "innocent" "civilians" to fuel anti-guild propaganda, he also gets to test his blastia experiment (whatever the heck that was) and no one has to know cause no one lived to tell it....right?
Anyway. Alexei is Seifer's bastard son that's it that's the headcanon
#tales of vesperia#all this because of skull motifs and grey coloured spiky hair#karaii's headcanons#karaii art

some Great War headcanons!!!!
1st pic -- so it's canon that Casey and Yeager dated, which got me thinking about pre-blastiaheart!Yeager. In the japanese version of the game, yeager's accent is clearly american, while in the american version he's bizarrely german, so i decided to give him the name Frank -- both as a germanic and american sounding name, as well as a nod to metal gear solid because i'm a neeerd.
Casey's a good lady so I figure proto!Yeager was probably a good kid, too. It got me thinking about how Raven -- Schwann's alter ego -- is a lot more like Damuron than Schwann was. So I figured Rageay likely had some similarities to proto!Yeager, too. I made him look similar hair-wise and personality wise he's probably a bit shy. Casey and him were really romantic and sappy and they were planning on opening an orphanage for war orphans together, but, well, rip.
also also also. yeager's got a bit of pointy teeth and pointy ears, right? obviously it's a 'vampire aesthetic' reference, but what if he's got diluted krityan blood somewhere up the line...? (though can krityans even interbreed with humans..? things to think about).
.
2nd pic -- in the manga there's a bit where someone says Duke comes by Mount Temza because Alexei begged him to, and that Duke "used" to be a knight but wasn't during the Great War, and yet he was still somehow a hero?? So I figured he and Alexei must go waaay back. Way back to their days as cadets.
Duke's an aristocrat, royalty-adjacent given his pedigree; but Alexei is very clearly stated to be a commoner who won his way into the noble-only knights through a royalty-sponsored duel. So I wondered how they got along at the beginning. They're both very single minded and determined creatures so maybe their intensity is how they bonded? The fact that they both have gray hair makes me go HMMMM and wonder if Alexei is some aristocrat's bastard hmmmmmm....
bastard half brother alexei
.
3rd pic -- So very late in my second playthrough I finally realized Hermes is Judith's dad!!!! Which made me go DAMN!! No wonder Judy wants to destroy hermes blastia so much. her own dad is the reason why the world's ending!
But then that made me think, yo, why the fuck would hermes -- a krityan! with entelexeia-sensing antennae!! -- ever continue inventing blastia that threatened the world so damn badly. surely some entelexia would've told him stop that shit, right? ba'ul was literally RIGHT! THERE!! the whole damn time. why didn't he listen?
and then I decided, i bet Hermes' antennae suffered an injury or maybe he was just born defective, and he just plain can't hear Entelexeia. maybe he decided to focus on blastia to compensate his inability? it made him a more compelling character to me if he was a shoddy krityan not just because he hung out with humans, but if he had an actual disability that alienated him from his brethren.
i wonder if baby!judy ever told hermes to stop, because ba'ul told her hermes blastia were bad. and what hermes might have said that ultimately made judith escape the war with ba'ul without him in tow...
things to think about!!

I know Toriyama’s worldbuilding was “make shit up as I go” and “perpetually flying by the seat of my pants”, so I don’t expect a truer answer beyond ‘he simply reused the design due to laziness/lack of time’, but in the interest of trying to fill plot holes and connect plot threads, I wonder if Frieza’s ancestors had contact with the Namekians, amicable enough that they adopted the Namekian’s skin patterns as a design for the Battle Armour. Either that, or a Namekian designed it?
Frieza clearly recognizes Namekians, though the Namekians were nearly wiped out some undetermined number of years prior (that “natural disaster” that’s never quite explained, though I have my hypotheses about that as well), presumably way before Frieza was born considering Kami was sent to Earth 300 years ago. Seeing the space-fairing tech the Namekians had, I wonder if they got that through cultural exchange with the Planet Trade Organization...
Things to think about, hum. I like to think Gohan was an astute, observant boy that questioned all these things quietly and analytically. Maybe as a young adult he even speculated with Dende about it, trying to piece together Namek’s history... *goes on a mental tangent for a moment*
Piccolo’s technically only four years older than Gohan, so he’s actually what -- nine years old here? Eight? Ugh. They’re both babies. I wonder how many memories Piccolo has of his past selves, if any. He considers himself to be King Piccolo’s son, so his identity is separate, but does that mean he also doesn’t remember being the Nameless Namekian? I wonder what it must have felt like, in those early years, to be this patchwork piecemeal version of someone who was already half a previous someone. Ugh!!! Getting feels for poorly written child soldiers again.

Goten grows up to be such a wannabe Chad in GT that it made me wonder if he didn't hang out with Yamcha during his high school years. So here's my headcanon for how they first really "met"....both being ditched by their respective Briefs' bestie XD;;
Yamcha’s a character I never really cared for, but now that I’m adult, I feel really bad for him. He’s a street rat who clawed his way to a certain standard of living by the skin of his teeth, but he was never and will never be on par with his friends’ strength or ability. Kinda parallels Goten’s situation in high school, who is never gonna be as smart as Gohan was or Trunks is, academically speaking.
Yamcha’s unfortunately also a casual misogynist and narcissist, so he’s not...the best figure to look up to or admire. So he wasn’t the best influence on adolescent Goten’s brain or behaviour, lol. But Yamcha’s also very loyal and will be there for you (as long as you don’t mind him sleeping around like a pathological sex addict), so that bit of stability was something Goten really needed during this time since his dad was never around (off training Uub), his mom was too abrasive to listen to his bullshit, his brother Gohan was too busy raising Pan and excelling in his chosen field, and his best friend Trunks was too busy zooming through college in order to take over Capsule Corp.
So, despite being a sleezeball and a skeevy uncle figure, I think Yamcha was not a totally terrible father figure to Goten during high school :)

I originally intended albus to be the phoenix and gellert the thestral, but, y’know, i’m kind of really digging the idea that it’s the other way around now >:D
i like playing around and messing with expectations, and albus being a thestral is really left field and personally satisfying. aberforth’s a goat, probaby, and ariana may have even grown up to be a unicorn, so albus should be some sort of horse creature, yeah? and what better horse than a thestral...
he is the weight and knowledge of death, his skeletal and stripped heart invisible to those that do not Know him; and well, thestrals carry hogwarts students to school! thestrals are misunderstood and despised and feared, but they’re really gentle and loyal creatures.. i imagine shame is why albus rarely if ever used his animagus form.
gellert being a phoenix is double whammy for me (it woulld mean albus’ phoenix patronus is cause of him :3c), he is the fire that kills itself over and over, but returns, unbroken; his charisma and ability to entrance all who hear his song; and his crocodile tears that "heal", or, if you look at it sideways, transform you, alter you, from the inside out....restructure you. that’s kinda scary!! and invasive!!
i guess i just like the idea of their animagus not being what you'd automatically assume :)
